Mr. Buono received his Bachelors of Science in Biology from SUNY at Stony Brook. He holds a Master of Science in Natural Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. With his education he became a teacher which he started at New Lebanon High and then taught at Onteora High School. Onteora is located in the Catskill Mountains which is home to the Ashokan Reservoir. This reservoir is the main source of drinking water for New York City.

He has participated in Marist College's Science on the Move which focuses on inquiry based learning which meets the new standards for the biology curriculum. In 2002, he attended Cornell University for Cornell's Institute for Biology Teachers and also was an adjunct professor at Marist College. He attended Syracuse University in the summer of 2003 to iniate SUPA's forensic science class.

Mr. Buono has taught biology, chemistry, physics, forensic science, molecular/microbiology and physiology. He has also coached JV Girls Soccer, Track, Football, Wrestling and JV Baseball. After a decade of teaching and coaching, he became the Assistant Principal at Onteora high school and is now Principal at Bennett Elementary.
 
Ms. Gina Tucker and Ms. Susan Galuska are the secretaries that make Bennett Elementary run as efficiently as it does.
