Social Studies is being taught in a new way this year at Phoenicia and Woodstock Elementary Schools. Karen Hadley, an Onteora teacher on special assignment, is helping Grade 2 and 3 classroom teachers weave Social Studies content into other subject areas, like English Language Arts (ELA), Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and Civics.
The Onteora Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Victoria McLaren as Superintendent of Schools. McLaren, who was approved at the April 20 Board of Education meeting, will be assuming her new position on June 6.
Kaleigh Garraffa, the author of Las Locas: the Madwomen, credits her Onteora teachers and community with helping her to realize her dream of becoming a writer. She also credits the pandemic, which interrupted her in-person studies at Marist College, with giving her more time to devote to her passion.
The Onteora Central School District Board of Education has unanimously approved a resolution requesting a recount of ballots cast in the 2022-2023 Budget Vote and Election to determine the winner of the third open Board seat. The resolution was passed at the Special Board Meeting held on May 27.
Kyra Smith and Avery Burns have been named this year’s Mid-Hudson Athletic League (MHAL) Senior Scholar-Athlete Award recipients from Onteora High School (OHS). The awards, which are given to one female and one male student from each school in the League, are based on academic merit and athletic performance.
