Keeping the Music Alive at Bennett!

On Friday, November 7th, Bennett Elementary School students had a wonderful time—clapping, swaying, and snapping along—during a lively concert performed by musicians from The Ashokan Center, a local treasure known for its outdoor education, music, and cultural programs.

Students view a fiddle while the musician holds it.

The interactive performance had students singing in call-and-response, keeping rhythm, and learning about traditional American folk music. Musicians introduced instruments like the banjo and clarinet, sharing how the songs they played were passed down through generations. They encouraged students to help keep these traditions alive—just as legendary musicians such as Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie once did.

The performance was not only good fun, but also a meaningful lesson in music, history, and community connection. A big THANK YOU to The Ashokan Center for bringing this inspiring experience to our students!
