Dear Parents, Faculty, Staff and Community Members -
I hope this note finds you well and enjoying the post-Halloween afterglow. It was fun to see so many fun student and community gatherings over the last few weeks including the Fall Fests at Bennett and Woodstock, the big reveal of the new book vending machine in Woodstock, and the dance in the Middle School. You can read about the Woodstock Book Vending Machine Reveal here. Thank you to the students, parents, faculty, and staff who work together to make these student and community gatherings possible! You bring so much heart to our learning experience.
I am reaching out to you today to share updates about our continued efforts to shape our campus in Boiceville. As we discussed in a recent Board of Education gathering, we are on the path to a renovated and fully centralized campus by the 2028-29 school year. Your engagement in shaping what this campus can and will look like continues to be a top priority for me and my team. Giving our students the best education we can remains our guiding light in any change we make. We know that the input of our entire school community is critical to shaping how we do that.
Learning Together: Announcing Community Forums
For this reason, I am thrilled to announce that we will be offering a series of Community Forums to gather together to share our early thoughts on what a design for Central Campus might look like. Our draft designs will be informed by extensive work completed to date including community gatherings, architect-led space utilization assessments, our state-required building conditions survey, and more. Our aim in these sessions is to have open and honest dialogue, hear community feedback on priorities, and be transparent about the design, funding, and process for the path to the central campus. More details to come, but for now, I hope you will save the dates below.
- Community Forum 1: First Draft Review + Prioritization Exercise
(December 3, 2024, 6:00 -8:00 PM)
- Community Forum 2: Second Draft Review + Community Discussion
(January 15, 2025, 6:00 -8:00 PM)
- Community Forum 3: Proposed Campus Design + Community Q & A
(February 25, 2025, 6:00 -8:00 PM)
These sessions will include participation from District architects, engineers and administrators. Sessions will be facilitated by our partner Point Road Studios to offer a thoughtful and interactive learning experience for all who can join.
Community Input Has Been Paramount
Our upcoming Community Forums are building on the incredibly valuable conversations already held. Thank you to all who joined us for community gatherings last Spring to share wishes and worries regarding central campus and to vision together what would be important to include on our Central Campus. If you were unable to attend, you can see the facilitator summary of those events here and the artist-created visual distillation of all the incredible ideas generated.
District architects and engineers were in attendance at these events and really appreciated the chance to get a sense for our school culture and identity. In a recent working session they summed up our community as caring, creative, and committed - from our stellar educators to our caring staff to our connected community. I couldn't agree more.
Students, Faculty and Staff Have Key Perspective
While all were invited to participate in our community sessions in the Spring, we wanted to be sure to offer tailored opportunities to gather input from students, faculty and staff. We are hosting an afterschool program in mid-November for Middle School and High School students and working with Faculty and Staff leadership to create meaningful and efficient ways for these key members of our community to weigh in on what they wish for in our campus design.
We Appreciate Your Continued Partnership
Please know that as we navigate changes in the months and years to come, it is our desire and commitment to do so in partnership with all of you. We will continue to look for new ways to keep the doors of communication open and appreciate you doing the same. Feel free to reply to this message and reach out to me directly or submit a question to the board.
Warmly,
Victoria
