What to do if your child tests positive for COVID-19
If your child has any new onset of illness such as fever, cough, headache, runny nose or congestion, body aches, stomach distress, extreme fatigue, or loss of taste or smell, please keep your child home and test for COVID-19.
Please report positive COVID test results to your school nurse and to the Ulster County Department of Health at: https://covid19.ulstercountyny.gov/hometest/.
COVID positive individuals must isolate for 5 full days, starting with the first full day AFTER symptoms begin or date of positive test. The school nurse will follow up with you on your child's last day of isolation via email or phone.
If the symptoms are resolving, and your child is fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication, the isolation period can end, but students must be cleared to return by their school nurse.
In order to reduce the risk of spreading infection, a well fitted surgical or KN-95 mask should be worn for five days upon return to school after COVID infection.
Please complete the affirmation form once your child is feeling better, the isolation period has ended, and your child has been cleared to return to school by your building nurse. Please sign the form and send it directly to your school nurse upon your child's release from isolation/return to school.
The school nurse will follow up with you on your child's last day of isolation, but please follow up with your healthcare provider or go to the nearest emergency room/urgent care center if your child's symptoms intensify; they develop a high fever, persistent vomiting or diarrhea, chest discomfort or difficulty breathing.
