Proposition 2
K-12 Renovations and Infrastructure Upgrades – $15 million
Proposition 2 includes the highest priority renovations and infrastructure upgrades at Bennett and the Middle/High School. They include “nuts and bolts” building updates, modernizations to support the education program, and drainage improvements for athletic facilities.
At Bennett Elementary School:
- Replace windows that are 60+ years old, single-pane and inefficient; replace and/or restore exterior walls as needed when old windows are removed.
- Modernize two Music Rooms (which were originally designed as kindergarten classrooms) to square off their hexagon shape, make them soundproof and about 30% larger, and improve acoustics, technology and instrument storage.
- Renovate restrooms in the front hallway, which are 60+ years old, with modern plumbing and accessibility.
- Replace old ceiling and lighting in 12 classrooms and a corridor in the front wing, which do not use energy efficiently and are nearing the end of their useful life.
At the Middle/High School:
- Modernize three High School science classrooms/labs, including new acid waste lines; add A/C there.
- Enhance and improve privacy for the nurses’ offices; add A/C there.
- Improve the grass field area with better drainage for the soccer field, re-grading in the field hockey area; new fencing along the baseball field; a concrete pad so bleachers can be positioned to face the soccer or softball field; and ADA-compliant pathways and parking.
- Resurface only the top layer of the running track.
