We want to share updated recommendations from the CDC and the New York State Department of Health.

On March 7, 2024, following the CDC recommendations, The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) revised its guidance for when to stay home and when individuals can return to normal activities after respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in NON-HEALTHCARE settings.

Please keep your child home if they have symptoms of a respiratory virus.  These symptoms can include:

-Fever over 100.0 F
-chills
-extreme fatigue
-cough
-body aches
-runny nose  (new onset/not associated with allergies)
-headache

Individuals can go back to normal activities when they have been fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) AND symptoms are improving; your child feels better, appetite and energy are improved.

Please keep in mind that even when people begin to feel better, they can still spread viruses to others.

When resuming normal activities, please take added precautions for the next five days when indoors and in close proximity with others.

-wear a mask
-wash hands frequently with soap and water
-get tested for COVID-19, RSV, and influenza

If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse.
