To Parents and Guardians of incoming Kindergarten and
Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Students for the 2019-20 School Year
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Onteora Central School District is implementing a new registration system this year, so you will no longer receive paper registration packets unless you specifically request them. We are implementing an Online Registration process that will make student registration more convenient, more efficient and more environmentally conscious. You will no longer need to make an appointment to meet in person with our District Registrar, although she is always available to answer questions or provide assistance.
We are asking that you complete our online Kindergarten registration between March 18 – April 12, 2019. Once the completed registration packet is received and reviewed, our District Registrar, Sharon Wood, may contact you with any questions she might have about your application or to remind you of any missing documents required for registration. As soon as your child is registered, they will be assigned an appointment for Kindergarten Screening.
Our Kindergarten screening will be centralized this year, and will be held at the Central Administration Offices at our Boiceville, NY Campus. Our Kindergarten teachers, primary school nurses, speech pathologists and occupational therapists will be on hand to screen your child and answer any questions you might have. Kindergarten screening will be held the week of May 6 – 10, 2019. You will receive detailed information about screening when your child’s appointment is made. Around the middle of June, Kindergarten parent information nights will be held in both of our primary schools. You will receive more information about our Kindergarten parent information nights at Kindergarten screening.
Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Registration
Universal Pre-K Registration: Register Online
We are asking that you complete our online UPK registration between March 1 – March 29, 2019. Once the completed registration packet is received and reviewed, our Pupil-Personnel Department Secretary, Margaret Harkin, may contact you with any questions she might have about your application or to remind you of any missing documents required for registration. When your child is registered, their name will be added to a list from which our UPK students will be chosen. Our full-day Universal Pre-K enrollment is based on need. Students who receive Special Education supports, those eligible for free/reduced lunch, and/or those who are English Language Learners will be enrolled first. All other children will be chosen randomly by lottery for our full-day or half-day programs. Once the program is full, we keep up-to-date wait lists for both full and half-day slots.
Please check the Onteora Central School District website for updates about our new online registration system. We will also advertise on Facebook, in local newspapers, and through our local daycare centers and preschools as we approach our planned registration dates.
