Superintendent's Letter - February 9, 2022 - Onteora Lost a Student
February 9, 2022
Dear Onteora families,
The Onteora Community suffered a deep loss earlier this week. On February 7, 2022, Pearson Reynolds, a sixth-grade student, passed away after a long illness. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students.
The Bennett Crisis Intervention Team met this morning to plan to support our students and staff. Each school in the District has a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. All of our schools have counselors available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss. We encourage you, as parents, to also feel free to use our resources that we will post on our district website.
The Onteora community is a close knit community and our other buildings are also aware of the situation and monitoring students and staff in order to provide additional support to anyone that might need it. If you would like additional information or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact your building principal.
We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child as you need. Our thoughts are with the family and we want to support them and respect their privacy.
Sincerely,
Marystephanie Corsones
Interim Superintendent
