    During tax season, from the beginning of September until mid-November, Onteora Central School District’s Tax Office is open from 9:00 am to 12 noon, Monday through Friday, with the exception of school holidays and emergency closings.  During this time period, you may contact the Tax Office:

    The Tax Office is closed from mid-November through the end of August, but assistance is still available by contacting Ms. Berryann at the telephone number or email address above.

    School Tax Information 2017-18 Tax Information – Updated August 25, 2017

    Tax bills for 2017 are anticipated to be mailed on August 30, 2017. The tax collection period is September 1, 2017 to October 2, 2017, without payment of a penalty. Onteora Central School District allows for the payment of taxes in three installments; however, any payments made after October 2, 2017 are subject to penalty. Tax payments made from October 3, 2017 through October 31, 2017 are subject to a 1% penalty. Tax payments made from November 1, 2017 through November 3, 2017 are subject to a 2% penalty. No payments will be accepted after November 3, 2017.

    After November 3, 2017 please contact Ulster County Department of Finance at 845-340-3431. If checks are received by the district after this date, they will be returned to sender. Any unpaid taxes remaining at the end of the District’s collection period are reported to the Ulster County Department of Finance in mid-November, assessed additional penalties and re-levied onto the General Tax bills issued in January.

    If you are paying in installments, the first payment MUST be 50% of the total bill in order to be accepted. If it is not, the check will be returned.

    School tax bill calculations are based on property assessed value, equalization rate, and the town’s share of the overall tax levy. It should be noted that the town assessors have responsibility for the assessed values; the NYS Tax Department’s State Board of Real Property Tax Services has responsibility for equalization rates. In some cases, changes in equalization rates may impact how much individual towns share proportionately in the school tax levy.

    Payments can be made by cash, bank check, personal check, or money order. The District is unable to process credit cards.
